Thank you, Nancy, for writing what I've been thinking about over the last 6 months, and just haven't been able to put it into words. I want slowness, not fastness.
Do we all want to be swallowed up by technological efficiency? I have so many questions with no answers.
Julie, all of us who fight for others and for what is good in this world are always up against it. It is so easy to get discouraged, but it is the fight that matters. You do it every time you climb a hill running when your lungs are aching and your legs ready to quit. You never quit. All good to you.
Thank you, Nancy Dafoe, for your powerful and thought provoking post. Avarice (greed) IS the root of all evil. The greed of data center billionaires is miles beyond shocking!
Thank you, Gary. The greedy billionaires have found a way (and candidates to do their bidding) to distract Americans from these issues, pointing at immigrant families in the way other dictators pointed to a group for a scapegoat.
Indeed a dastardly skill! Tax billionaires at 50% of their net profits before all the “legal” dodges our government has handed them. Outlaw 0% profit gimmicks and -0% which earns payments to them!!!
I love Robert MacFarlane! I do remember when the lakes in the Adirondacks were really suffering from acid rain from the Midwest. It was very eerie to see those dead lakes and know they died because of pollution. I, too, am really dismayed by the push to build data centers everywhere. It's just a terrible, unsustainable greedy land/water grab.
How to awaken a population that the water consumption by data centers may destroy us, to say nothing of the fact that we don't really need AI.? Just one more manufactured "need" to make the ultra-wealthy tech bros wealthy beyond all comprehension.

Julie, thank you for reading and commenting. I think you have so many answers.
Nancy, thank you for the encouragement. Lately, I don't feel that way.

If we would somehow elect enough candidates to high office that would make this possible! Midterms are coming and critically important.
Thank you. Now I know why so many people are against these centers!

Spread the word. If the larger community of people who care wake to this impending disaster, maybe the politicians will start to listen.
